26-year-old Oliver Nelson is truly taking the world by storm and is leading the current group of Nordic exports coming out of Sweden, Norway and Denmark. His productions have amassed over 80 million plays across Soundcloud and 60 million streams on Spotify proving that this artist is set for dizzy heights.
Originally growing up in Stockholm, Oliver’s first love of music came in the form of the drums and it wasn’t until 2007 that Oliver found electronic and fell in love. The very first life track was Justice and their single "D.A.N.C.E" which inspired Oliver to explore producing music on a more serious note.
Going to a specialist music school and playing the drums created influences that will stay with him forever. He fondly recalls his teacher telling him he would never make it in the music industry as he couldn’t read note-sheets, he learnt everything himself through pure listening.Inspiration came from a broad range and style of music and influences. Artists like Toto, Peter Gabriel and Jamiroquai all the way through to Ed Banger, Kavinsky, Goldroom and Ben Khan.
Using ‘Reason’ and ‘Ableton’ it was some 3 years before Oliver felt he had perfected his work enough to actually put it online and let others hear his music. From that point on, the rest is near history, going from unofficial remixes to being contracted for artists such as Blonde, Janet Jackson, Urban Cone, Bon Iver, Kim Cesarion, MNDR, Jutty Ranx, Keljet, Mikky Ekko, Ella Henderson, Route 94, Max Marshall, Ariana & The Rose, The Knocks, Lemaitre, Priory, Cazzette, Tove Lo, The Kooks and more.
Oliver regularly receives support from some of the web’s most influential blogs, websites and YouTube channels such as Suicide Sheep, Indie Shuffle, Dancing Astronaut, Earmilk, Kick Kick Snare, The Vibe Guide, Mr Revillz and many more. Oliver has also charted No. 1 on Hype Machine 10 times over with his top remixes reaching 10 million plus in streams across platforms such as YouTube, Spotify and Soundcloud, the latter where he has over 103,000 followers.
“The support I receive from my fans and blogs is something that is very important to me, I find it extremely overwhelming but at the same time very blessed that so many people love the music I produce and can’t wait to see what the future holds” – Oliver Nelson
